Apple iPod Mini 4GB

Filed under: Features, Types - 28 Mar 2007

The Apple iPod Mini 4GB is a much smaller version of the full sized iPod, with amazing sound quality and features for such a small music player. The iPod mini comes in many different colors to match everyone’s individual style and favorite designs.

First released and marketed in January of 2004, the iPod mini was much awaited by iPod owners. The marketing campaign was very popular, with iPod owners waiting to get their hands on the sleeker, smaller and more streamlined mini. While the total storage of the iPod mini is much less than the 80 GB full-sized iPod, the mini can still hold up to a thousand songs, a very similar storage capacity to the original iPod first released in 2001. The Apple iPod Mini was designed to appeal to those users that wanted a less expensive model of the iPod that could use the same types of flash memory devices as other MP3 players, but also wanted the features of the iPod, including the 4 gigabytes of storage space.

The Apple iPod Mini 4GB comes in five colors: gold, green, silver, pink and blue. The silver, blue and pink colors are the most common, with gold and green being relatively rare and hard to find. Before these new versions of the iPod even got to stores, there were over 100,000 minis ordered online, making them one of the highest demand Apple products.

The Apple iPod Mini 4GB uses the standard, easy-to-use wheel control of the standard iPod. The actual size of the mini is about the same as a standard credit card with a thickness of ½ inch. In addition to the iPod mini, the box that it comes in also contains a power adaptor that can plug directly into any Mac computer, an owner’s manual, installation CD, FireWire and USB 2.0 cables to allow music downloads from virtually any computer. In addition, there is a belt clip that will keep the mini firmly attached to your waist during traveling, walking, or even just lounging around the house. For those that enjoy more vigorous types of exercise, there is an additional armband that can be purchased separately to keep this small, 3.6 oz device safe while working out.

The iPod wheel on the mini is slightly different than the original, in that the controls for forward, rewind and menu and the pause/play buttons are embedded right in the wheel, perfect for making adjustments without needing to look down. This click wheel is usually preferred by users over the touch wheel, but will take a bit of getting used to if you have an older version of the iPod.

An Apple iPod Mini 4GB is a great gift idea or just as something nice for yourself. If you want a high quality portable music player with storage, this is just the item for you.

Apple iPod Earphones

Apple iPod earphones come in a wide variety of styles, sizes and options. The standard earphones for iPod devices are sleek, stylish and designed to be worn inside the ears rather than standard outside-of-the-ear earphones used with many other portable media players. One of the largest advantages of the Apple iPod earphones is that they are durable, very sturdy, and have a high quality of sound output, far better than even significantly more expensive traditional headphones or earphones.

For those that enjoy listening to their music while jogging, working out or just going for a walk, Apple iPod earphones now come in an ergonomically designed sports model, complete with an adjustable neckband to help keep the earphones in place even in the most intense activities. The specially designed rubberized covering is water and sweat resistant and will not move or slip even if the wearer is sweating.

The small in-ear Apple iPod earphones are slightly different than the ones traditionally sold with the iPods. These new smaller, lighter in-ear phones are also known as ear buds. These very tiny, durable in-ear headphones come with three different pads or covers to allow them to fit into virtually anyone’s ear. The ear buds are actually designed to be pushed into the ear, not to sit on the edge of the ear. Most people that are having difficulty with the iPod earphones are not correctly inserting the earpieces.

Apple iPod earphones are considered safe for use and there are no researched negative effects of using the in-ear phones versus traditional headphones, providing the volume is correctly adjusted. The ear pads allow the user to adjust the size of the in-ear iPod earphones to keep them snug and eliminate a large amount of background noise that is noted in traditional headphones.

The Apple iPod earphones that are designed for the nano are an ideal combination of a lanyard and a set of earbuds. The lightweight nano can easily be worn around the neck virtually anywhere, and the lanyard design keeps the cables from the earbuds from becoming tangled or becoming a problem. Many joggers and walkers enjoy the convenience and lightweight combination of the nano and the lanyard style earbuds.

Some of the Apple iPod earphones also come with a remote control that makes changing songs, adjusting volume and setting play lists just a touch away. The remote control feature works with several types of earphones, including the popular earbuds.

There is a style, model and type of earphone available for every user. Choosing the correct Apple iPod earphones is often difficult, because most owners have several models to choose from. So, before considering which model of earphone or earbud will work best for you, try reading some of the online reviews or talking to other iPod users.

Apple iPod Chargers

Filed under: Batteries, Accessories - 26 Mar 2007

One of the first accessories that most iPod owners and music lovers will want to purchase is one of versions of the Apple iPod charger. The iPod charger can be designed to plug into standard wall outlets, car or vehicle lighters or even directly to a computer to keep batteries charged while in use or when the iPod is off. In addition, the chargers allow users to keep their iPod completely charged while driving in their car, boat or even on a motorcycle. This ability to keep iPods energized without having to rely on the relatively short battery life of the iPod has made them more versatile and far more usable across a wide range of settings and environments.

PowerJolt

The Apple iPod charger for vehicles is called the PowerJolt. This charger comes with a universal plug-in that will fit any standard car, truck or vehicle lighter. It will also fit into the 12V accessory ports found in many of the newer vehicles, boats and even in recreational vehicles. The iPod can be plugged into the PowerJolt charger in either the play mode or the standby mode with no need to turn off the iPod or modify your listening enjoyment. While the charger is on, the batteries will be replenished and then the iPod will play directly off the power source, leaving the iPod batteries fully charged when the player is unplugged from the charger.

There is a power surge protector, and a LED light to let users know when charging is completed as well as a color changing system that allows you to know how fully charged the battery is during the process.

PowerBlock

The PowerBlock will allow the iPod to be charged from any standard wall outlet, with additional adaptors for international power supplies and different currents. The PowerBlock can be used with 110 to 240 volt electrical supplies and is designed with two flat, polarized plugs that will work worldwide. The PowerBlock also features the LED that will indicate the status of the charging as well as let users know when the charge is complete.

Different models of iPod will either plug directly into the PowerBlock or will plug in via an additional adaptor cable. This dock connector cable will come with the unit.

Apple iPod charger units can be purchased one at a time or in combination packages that give buyers both chargers for a reduced rate compared to buying each separately.

Apple iPod chargers include a specialized FireWire Power charger that can be used as a separate power source from the computer. These FireWire Power chargers are only for use with an Apple iPod and cannot be used with any other type of device. Apple iPod chargers also have different accessories and universal plug-in adaptors for use with a variety of devices.

Apple iPod Battery Life

Filed under: Batteries, Tips, Accessories - 25 Mar 2007

Apple iPod battery protection and long life depends greatly on how the equipment is used, stored and protected. Owners that use the appropriate care with their iPods will be able get the longest possible usage out of the batteries, and will even be prepared with additional accessories such as chargers and external batteries to enjoy music from their iPod on a continual basis.

The term battery life actually refers to the amount of time that your iPod will run. It is often also called runtime or playtime, depending on the term you are most familiar with. The more accessories and add-ons that are being used, the shorter the battery life will be for the iPod. This term may be confused with the term “battery lifespan” which is the phrased used to designate how long the battery will last before it will need to be replaced. All batteries will eventually need to be replaced, despite how the owner cares for the battery. There are many different reasons that this occurs, but replacing batteries can be costly so ensuring proper care of an Apple iPod battery is a cost-saving matter.

Tips for Long Battery Life

The following are some easy-to-follow tips and strategies for making your batteries last as long as possible with regards to both playtime and battery lifespan:

  • Keep all batteries and iPods out of intense heat or direct sunlight. This means that they should never be stored inside vehicles or in front of windows, over heaters or heating vents, or beside stoves or other appliances that give off large amounts of heat. Even the heat from a computer or a TV could potentially decrease the lifespan of a battery.
  • Be sure to go through one complete charge cycle at least thirty days. Most iPod users will easily go through this cycle every month, but if you are an infrequent user it is critical to completely run the battery down and then recharge fully at least once a month. If at all possible this should be done every two weeks. This will help the battery keep a full charge as long as possible.
  • Always shut your iPod off completely when not in use for long periods or put it on hold if you are just taking a break. Many people simply turn down the volume or mute the volume, which continues to use battery power even if you are not using the device.
  • Optimize your settings to only use the features needed, then turning any others on only as needed. The fewer features that start up with the program, the less drain there will be on the battery.
  • Create play lists instead of constantly flipping through all songs. This method prevents the iPod from constantly having to clear the cache, thereby saving both battery life and memory.

Caring for your Apple iPod battery is usually a matter of common sense. Take the time to read through the owner’s manual and use the battery saving tips provided.

The iPod

Filed under: History, Features - 24 Mar 2007

iPods are one of the newest technologies available for playing personally selected music. Their small size, or only five ounces, and the amazing sound quality has made the iPod one of Apple’s biggest selling items. Adults, teens and even kids can easily use the unique wheel design, although some of the newer iPods have button controls. The iPod technology has allowed users to download and listen to hours of their own selection of music, providing much more customization than most of the standard MP3 players available on the market.

In addition to just music, iPods can also be used to download and store up to eighty gigabytes of any type of files, including text files, slideshows and even video clips. This high level of diversity, combined with the ease of usage of the iPod, has made it very popular, even with those users that are not computer-literate or up-to-date on the latest technologies. The graphic interface used in the iPod provides high-colored graphics that are identical to the graphics on computer screens, televisions or other digital-imaging devices.

History of the iPod

Apple computers first introduced the iPod in 2001, and the company was unsure as to how the public would react to this new way of storing, playing and sharing music. The first iPods were MP3 players with a then unbelievable five gigabytes of storage space. The first iPods were slightly bulkier than the new streamlined models of today but were still an industry leader in large amounts of storage capacities in small-sized packages.

Originally the iPods had numerous problems, largely with poor battery life and performance. Consumers, despite these problems, were willing to continue to purchase iPods and the numerous accessories because of the exceptional sound quality and ease of operation that the iPod could offer. In addition, the downloadable music for the iPods was up to date and had all the top songs, as well as many of the traditional favorites that were hard to obtain for other MP3 players.

Apple computers took a huge risk in marketing and developing the iPod to rely solely on Apple computer products. This risk paid off for the company, with iPods now one of the largest selling portable music devices on the market. iPod also sells external speakers and additional items such as remote controls, microphones and external recording devices, car chargers, portable battery chargers, armbands for easy moving and portability as well as in-car iPod holders and adaptors.

Current iPods, unlike the first models, now come in wide range of colors with many different features and styles. Other companies have even come out with extended life batteries that will allow music lovers to enjoy up to 100 hours of tunes on their iPod.
