Finding the Perfect Projector for Your Power Point Presentation

Filed under: Personal Tech - 31 Mar 2009 from author

With so many options to choose from, buying a power point projector for an upcoming graphic presentation can be a difficult task for someone who is non-technical. With it’s focus on your needs, this article was written with the beginner in mind. If you go looking on your own, the first thing that the salesman will tell you is about resolution and brightness and will use other accepted industry buzzwords, but now you’ll know what they are talking about.

When an image is projected, it is made up of a quantity of dots of light called pixels. The number of pixels in an image is it’s resolution, this is often determined initially by the video source. In the best case scenario, your projector will operate natively at the same resolution as your video source, in this case the laptop containing your power point presentation.

Amazingly, not long ago the common resolution used to be rather crude VGA (640 x 480), this was later replaced by SVGA (800 x 600) and the more modern quality XGA (1,024 x 768). One can even venture into the really high end resolutions such as SXGA and UXGA, (1,280 x 1,024) and (1600 x 1200) respectively. This ultra high-end resolution comes with a high price tag.  Many projectors can operate at numerous resolutions but they always have a default or native resolution.

Brightness is a key characteristic to not in your projector search, it’s especially important for making presentations on the go in rooms that might not have optimal darkness. Projector brightness is measured in lumens.  The brightness of a projector in lumens is a very important specification to consider when doing power point presentations on the go or even in a conference room with the lights on. Huge venues or brightly lit rooms that remain so during a screening require projectors that are capable of a great amount of lumens, possibly 5000 or more.  Less lumens would be needed for a small audience, with a smaller screen in a well darkened room. In this case 1000 lumens could work fine. When you see the term ANSI lumens, just know that ANSI is a common standard method of measuring lumens.

Another important factor to consider is “throw distance”, this is the distance that your projector should be from the screen.  For projectors that are designed to operate in large venues, further than 15 ft back from the screen, large throw or long throw lenses are the norm. With a short throw presentation projector, your can make a presentation with the projector behind you, close to the screen and not have to worry about casting a shadow over your wonderful power point graphics.

Compatibility between your projector and laptop is also very important for smooth on the go presentations. Be sure that the resolution of both the projector and your laptop are compatible, ideally the same. Most of the time this is not an issue. None the less, be sure that regardless what kind of projector you purchase that it has all the cords and other port attachments that you’ll need. Again, it’s exceedingly important that everything is compatible with your laptop.

In your projector search, you want to look at a really wide range of items and narrow it down from these; find a place that allows you to view many projectors in a sitting. Believe it or not, you can find some of the best deals on power point projectors on ebay through projectorselect.com, see it for yourself. Armed with the basic knowledge, you are ready to go and find a great deal on the perfect power point projector for your needs.

Breath new life into your PC with Windows Error Repair

Filed under: Personal Tech - 27 Mar 2009 from author

When you first get your computer and install your Windows operating system everything is great. Software starts up fast, there is no real slowdown of starting up or shutting down your computer, and you'll find you don't have fix windows errors so often. This is because when you first install windows the only thing on there is the programs windows is optimized to run. Even if you did not install a single thing on your new computer, over time it would slow down and become not so fast.

Almost nobody in the world uses a computer with just the basic windows operating system installed. We all add things to the computer and configure it. The moment you configure anything, even the built in programs in Windows you are making changes to the registry. It is at this point that your computer is going to start slowing down, however not always. With average daily use of your PC there are hundreds of changes happening in the background to the Windows registry, you just don't see it happening each time. As time goes by, entries in the windows registry can become corrupt, products that work the right way will see these errors, delete it, fix it, or replace it with a new one. How ever the majority of programs do not follow this method.

The registry is the software equivalent of “moving parts” in a mechanical device. Over time they wear down and need to be fixed. With software however you can do this with other software and in seconds the components causing problems like dead entries, corrupt entries, and so forth, can be detected and deleted.

Programs like registry mechanic and regcure are designed to not only clean out your registry but to maintain it as well. You can learn a lot at the Reg cure reviews and Registry Mecahnic review sites about all the wonderful features these programs have that help you maintain your windows integrity.

A test to try prior to using your registry repair software on a computer that is running slow and keeps popping up errors, is to run a spyware and malware detection and removal program. Spyware and/or adware can do horrible things to your software and operating system, they can actually stop your registry repair software from doing it's job. Once you run and remove all spyware, then run the registry cleaner to detect and clean up all registry errors and you are on your way to a fast running computer. Keeping your computer in tip top shape using a piece of registry repair software not only improves the over all performance of you system but it also makes it more stable.

In the old days before registry cleaners you had to run your windows restore CD to repair all the errors on your PC, and this drastic move would reset everything, making it hard to enjoy your computer because you had to go back and rebuild your programs settings the way you liked it. If you're using a product such as Registry mechanic each time you turn your machine on you can set the program to scan your registry to ensure it's kept up to date and clean. It's a wonderful thing!

How to Fix Outlook PST Files

Filed under: Personal Tech - 18 Mar 2009 from author

Most people who have used Outlook for a number of years have had to work on the PST file at some point and time. “PST” stands for “Personal Storage Table”, a file format used by Outlook and other Microsoft Office products in order to store important data information. Not only does this include e-mail messages from Microsoft Exchange mail boxes, but also calendar items and other task items. You will notice that by default the PST file is kept under the users account on the C drive but when installing Outlook you are given a choice were to store this file and some users will have it on a netowrk or anther drive.

Over the course of a few years you will most likely encounter a problem with your pst file. It is possible to do a PST file repair using a variety of methods, depending on the severity of the damage. The first task is to find out where your PST files are stored. By default, they can be found in “C:Documents and SettingsUSER Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook”. Be sure to substitute your Windows login screen name for USER when typing in this directory. The default filename for your PST file that is hosting your current mail box is Outlook.pst. There is also an archive file available, known as Archive.pst. There is no way of telling if a PST file is corrupt based on visual inspection. When you start Outlook you will be prompted if the PST file is corrupt and needs to be repaired.

When Outlook is opened, the program will notify you of this problem, and then attempt to fix the PST file automatically. Before trying to use the external PST file repair tool that comes with office you should allow Outlook to attempt an automatic repair. In the event that the automatic repair fails to fix the Outlook PST file, you will have to open the Inbox Repair Tool located in “C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemMSMAPI1033” and search for the Inbox Repair Tool, under the filename Scanpst.exe.

This Inbox Repair tool is a great free program that comes with Outlook to help repair the file for free. To start this program, double click on the Scanpst.exe executable. A window will pop up, asking you to browse and enter the name of the Outlook PST file that needs to be repaired. If the PST file is too corrupted or damaged, the Inbox Repair Tool may not be able to fix the Outlook PST file, requiring other third-party solutions. If the Inbox Repair Tool cannot be found in the specified location, find and run CNFNOT32.exe, which should be in the same location that Scanpst.exe should be located. This will restore the executable back to the proper location.
